This pedal is presented as a possible clone of the Boss Super Overdrive or the Tube Screamer. But is it really worth anything? And why did I buy it? I reveal my motivations at the end of this article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unboxing and first impressions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Packaging<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pedal arrived in a simple brown envelope, with a small cardboard box inside. At first glance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The case is plastic (not the strongest).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The input and output connectors are metal, which is a good point.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The control knobs (level, tone, gain) are small but functional.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The switch is mechanical, probably of the \u201cTrue Bypass\u201d type.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Technical specifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mini format.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Standard power connector (9 volts, negative polarity, Boss compatible).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The inputs and outputs are offset due to the compact format.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Test on amp<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Initial configuration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I used a Peavey amp under the following conditions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clean channel in vintage mode.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Centrally positioned pedal controls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First results<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The clean sound of the amp before the pedal was activated was very clean. However, when the pedal was activated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The output volume was extremely loud, requiring the level to be reduced significantly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Too many high frequencies, giving a crackling and unpleasant sound.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feeling of excessive compression, especially on powerful dives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adjustments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Switching to Peavey&#039;s modern mode and playing with the settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The sound was a little more balanced, but still compressed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The tone and gain controls were extremely sensitive, making adjustment difficult.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overdrive channel test<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using the pedal as a boost on the amp&#039;s overdrive channel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The compression was even more present, eliminating all dynamics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The sound was spongy, lacking definition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Internal analysis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disassembly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Curious to see what was hidden inside, I opened the pedal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fragile plastic case.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Very basic PCB, with many surface mount components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Observations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This circuit appears to be designed for multiple pedal models. Some pads on the PCB are present for components that were not installed. This suggests a design geared towards cost reduction, with flexibility to produce different types of effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Positive points<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unbeatable price.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compatibility with standard adapters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compact format.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Negative points<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Excessive compression and lack of dynamics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flimsy construction and low-end components.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty getting a natural or pleasant sound, even with adjustments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Verdict<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This pedal can be interesting for a DIY project or for those who want to experiment with low-cost effects circuits. However, for serious or live use, it is not a substitute for a better quality pedal. As is often the case, &quot;you get what you pay for&quot;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And why did I buy it?
